RSS Training Institute Crime Scene Investigations Course 2026 Gets Underway
Over the
next three weeks, 16 law enforcement personnel from across seven of the
Regional Security System Member States will be exposed to the fundamental
principles, practical skills, and professional standards required to perform
effectively as Crime Scene Investigators.
This comes
as the Regional Security System and The Barbados Police Service jointly host
the RSS Training Institute Crime Scene Investigations Course 2026.
During his
opening remarks today, Director of Training Lieutenant Commander Brian Roberts
underscored this deliberate and strategic investment in strengthening the
investigative capabilities of the Member States and enhancing the quality,
professionalism, and effectiveness of criminal investigations across the
region.
“The
reality confronting many of our law enforcement agencies is that crime scene
investigation remains a specialised area in which significant gaps exist. As
criminal activity becomes increasingly sophisticated, the ability to properly
secure, document, recover, preserve, and present evidence has become more
critical than ever. Effective crime scene investigation forms the foundation
upon which successful investigations and prosecutions are built. When crime
scenes are processed professionally and methodically, the resulting evidence
supports justice, strengthens public confidence, and ultimately contributes to
safer communities,” he told participants.
Additionally,
Lieutenant Commander Roberts noted that a new module on Arson Investigation has
been added to the course, with a long-term objective to move beyond dependence
on external expertise by cultivating a cadre of qualified regional Crime Scene
Investigation instructors who can train, mentor, and develop practitioners
throughout the Member States.
“Additionally,
the RSS TI is examining the future development of Intermediate and Advanced
Crime Scene Investigation programmes that will further enhance investigative
competencies across the region. It is also our aspiration – as a CVQ Centre –
to develop these programmes within a structured Caribbean Vocational
Qualification framework, thereby providing recognised standards, professional
pathways, and accreditation opportunities for practitioners throughout the RSS
region,” he said.
This course
is co-sponsored by the European Union, with instructional assistance from the
Barbados Forensic Science Centre and the Office of the Director of Public
Prosecutions.
