The Regional Security System Headquarters is committed to advancing strategic initiatives that serve the interests of our member states and stakeholders. We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Public Relations/Communications Coordinator to join our dynamic team and contribute to our mission through impactful communication.

In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for crafting and executing comprehensive communication strategies that elevate the Regional Security System’s brand reputation and foster meaningful engagement with internal and external stakeholders. You will play a central role in shaping public perceptions, cultivating media relationships, and ensuring that all messaging reflects our organisational values and mission to our member states.

JOB TITLE: PUBLIC RELATIONS AND COMMUNICATIONS COORDINATOR

REPORTS TO: DEPUTY EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

ORGANISATION: REGIONAL SECURITY SYSTEM

RESPONSIBLE FOR: Professional work in the field of communications, including developing, executing and evaluating communication initiatives that align with the organisation’s mission, vision, values and strategic priorities to lead and implement communication strategies targeting key audiences through various forms of communication.

JOB FUNCTIONS

STRATEGIC COMMUNICATIONS

                 Develop and implement a comprehensive communications strategy.

                 Align messaging with organisational goals and target audiences.

                 Advise leadership on communication best practices and emerging trends.

 

CONTENT CREATION AND MANAGEMENT

                 Draft press releases, newsletters, blog posts, speeches, and social media content.

                 Manage and update website content and digital assets.

                 Ensure consistency in tone, branding, and messaging across all channels.

 

MEDIA AND PUBLIC RELATIONS

               Build and maintain strong relationships with media outlets and journalists in the RSS Member States and beyond.

                 Coordinate media interviews, press conferences, and public engagements.

                 Monitor media coverage and prepare media reports.

                 Develop and implement RSS branding initiatives.

 

INTERNAL COMMUNICATIONS

                 Support internal communication efforts to foster employee engagement.

                 Develop materials for staff briefings, announcements, and internal campaigns.

 

DELIVERABLES

                 Create communications strategy and implementation plan.

                 Produce monthly content calendar and media engagement schedule.

                 Provide Quarterly performance reports with analytics and recommendations.

                 Develop Crisis communication protocols and templates.

                 Assist with hosting of visiting dignitaries to RSS HQ

                 Participate in the hosting of RSS conferences, external meetings and workshops.

                 Create, maintain and enhance public perception of the RSS by identifying and targeting key audiences through various forms of communication.

                 Any other related matter as directed by the Executive Director.

MONITORING AND EVALUATION

                 Track communication metrics and prepare performance reports.

                 Conduct audience analysis and feedback surveys.

                 Adjust strategies based on data-driven insights.

 

DURATION

This position will be for an initial period of two (2) years, with the possibility of extension based on performance and organisational needs.

The Public Relations and Communications Coordinator must maintain strict confidentiality of all sensitive information and adhere to the organisation’s data protection policies and staff Regulations.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

•             Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or related field.

•             Minimum three (3) years of experience in strategic communications.

•             Excellent writing, editing, and interpersonal skills.

•             Proficiency in digital communication tools and platforms.

•             Possess excellent leadership and team management skills

•             Be innovative and proactive, possess a high level of emotional intelligence, and must be able to handle all situations with diplomacy.

•             Have a deep knowledge of public relations strategy, proficiency in crisis management and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
