Seven Certified in Virtual Asset Transfer Fundamentals

 


The Regional Security System Asset Recovery Unit (RSS ARU), in collaboration with Asset Reality Inc., continues to strengthen the capacity of RSS Member States in the safe seizure, transfer and management of virtual assets through the Virtual Asset Transfer Fundamentals (VATF) Certification Course.

The first cohort participated in the virtual training from 25–27 August 2026, with seven (7) participants successfully completing the course.

The VATF Certification is specifically designed for professionals involved in the seizure and management of crypto assets. The course provides participants with the foundational knowledge and practical skills required to safely conduct, verify, document and manage virtual asset transactions in accordance with established procedures and best practices.

During the three-day programme, participants were introduced to key areas including:

  • fundamentals of virtual assets and how they operate;
  • creation, management and security of virtual wallets;
  • wallet recovery using seed phrases and an understanding of derivation paths;
  • practical exercises involving the sending and receiving of testnet cryptocurrencies and the minting of an NFT;
  • risks associated with transferring virtual assets;
  • considerations for determining when assets should be moved from a suspect's wallet; and
  • chain of custody, approval processes and the proper documentation of virtual asset transactions.

The course encompassed 12 hours of instructor-led training, delivered over three days, and included a certification examination. Participants were required to achieve a minimum score of 75% to successfully obtain the certification. No prior cryptocurrency experience is required to undertake the course.

Participants selected for the training were drawn from the RSS Member States and include officers and officials involved in financial investigations, asset recovery and the management of seized assets under the RSS Digital Asset Management Programme.
